Calcutta Foundation, a
non-profit organization, was established in 1993/94 by Fran
Caterini (wife of the then Director of American Centre, Dino
Caterini), essentially to promote an orchestra comprising
talented musicians from the Oxford Mission. She left Kolkata
for the USA in 1995, and Shamlu Dudeja took over as the
Chairperson.
Since its inception in 1995, the
Foundation’s activities have increased to cover diverse
areas. It supports members of many under-privileged
communities, and is relentlessly engaged in empowering a
number of people of all age groups, through rehabilitation,
education and vocational training.
Calcutta Foundation is committed
to its motto: “Wipe a tear, Spread a Smile”, through a vast
range adversities be it the ravages of the Tsunami in the
Andamans and Nicobar Islands, or the need for a school meant
children of leprosy sufferers in Barrackpore. The activities
are planned and carried out either independently or
collaboratively with other NGOs, and, often, financial support
is extended to other organizations dedicated to a specific
cause.
Calcutta Foundation with
its meager capability is committed to stand by social causes
and make positive contributions. The organization owes
gratitude to the support of friends and patrons at home and
abroad.
