RELIEF FOR THE AILA AFFECTED VICTIMS IN SUNDERBANS 2009
RELIEF WORK FOR AILA VICTIMS
Aila Cyclone hit Kolkata on May 25, 2009, and caused
huge loss of life (human and animals), and damage to
property and vegetation, in the city, its suburbs, and
especially,
in the islands of Sunderbans, where thousands of people
are in severe distress.
Calcutta Foundation is back into action....
Our team of volunteers repeatedly visited the remote
islands of Sunderbans with the relief materials. In our
visit what really hit us was the scale of disaster and
damage,
and the number of affected people. A huge number of
people were living on the roadside in temporary sheds.
Thousands of people, especially children and women were
suffering from diarrhea and skin diseases and UTI.
People were drastically in need of a glass of drinking
water. Most of the islands were severely short of
drinking water.
They lost everything. They have nothing to ware, nothing
to eat.
Calcutta Foundation in collaboration with Rotary Club of
Mahanagar did the relief work in the remote villages.
Courtesy goes to the German Consulate, Kolkata.
They sponsored our relief project. We distributed dry
foods, cloths and other necessary household materials.
Our medical teams were also with us with plenty of me**Mr
Vinod Kumar has also indicated that he would like
Calcutta Foundation to be involved with rehabilitation
of child labour, but this has not been discussed in
detail, yet.
