BIHAR FLOOD (2008)
CF
worked in partnership with Rotary Mahanagar as
‘Together, we Will’, and was responsible for building
500 homes on Hut Be island, for Tsunami survivors in
2005. (Rupees fifty lacs were raised at a fund-raiser,
attended by Steve Waugh, in February 2005.)
Calcutta Foundation came into action, once again, soon
after the devastating floods, which ravaged Bihar
recently. This group came together again and collected
huge quantities of relief material, such as dry food,
medicines, drinking water and clothes. 6 truck-loads
full of relief material collected locally was sent to
PURNIA, in Malda Dist, for the flood-affected people who
had taken shelter in a large school, there.
2000
shelter kits were put together, which was handed over to
2000 families affected by floods, to help them start
their lives a fresh, once they came back to dry land.
The German Consulate approached Calcutta Foundation to
help them collect 1,000 Shelter Kits for the flood
victims of Bihar. The balance was sponsored by friends
of CF and Rotary.
